IKEA TYPEFACE
First Year Brief:
The brief for this project was to design a typeface for Ikea, that could be used in an advertising campaign. Choosing one of the following copy lines to use: ‘The wonderful everyday’ ‘Make it better’ ‘Welcome home’ The type design would be integrated throughout the campaign in the form of media, posters, flyers, leaflets, online banners, on TV and YouTube ads.
Ikea required the typography to imitate their fundamental business proposal – flat pack furniture. With this in mind, I created these letters by folding thin strips of red paper. It was designed as a modular font, with letter designs that are vibrant and innovative. The final type design was rendered in Adobe Illustrator as vector shapes. By changing the opacity of the ‘folds’ of the paper, it gave this creased impression once digitalised.
